Since your weapon swings from your movement, a knight standing still barely hurts anyone. Charge toward your opponent and change direction just before contact so the weapon whips forward with extra speed.
Distance control is the second skill. Long weapons such as spears reward staying at the edge of your reach, while short weapons need you to close in fast. After landing a hit, retreat a step so the counter-swing hits air.
Arena edges and hazards can finish a duel instantly. Try to keep your back toward the open middle and push your opponent toward the walls.
